Frequently Asked Question

How to use the Import/Export Feature?
Last Updated 11 days ago

Downloading all titles for a vessel on multiple devices can consume significant Internet data. To avoid this, you can use the Import/Export feature in Witherby Connect to transfer your entire downloaded library to another PC.

To start this process, it is important to have all up to date titles which you wish to export already downloaded on a single PC.

NOTE: The local storage of the browser is part of the user profile of the logged-on user and is not shared between different users who log on to the same PC.
If multiple different user accounts (Windows/Mac logins) are used to log on to a given PC, you will need to perform the Import process for each user account on that PC, to ensure that everyone has the same updated data.

To prepare these titles for export follow this process:

  1. Go to https://www.witherbyconnect.com and log in to Witherby Connect as normal.
  2. Click on “Library Download” image
  3. Click “Download All” to automatically download all titles less than 20MB.
  4. Alternatively, you can save the titles individually. To do this look through the list of titles and if they have a delete option this means they are downloaded and saved to cache already.
  5. Some titles may show the following options:
    image
This means that this title is not yet downloaded. Click the Save Button to start the download.

NOTE: The lighter coloured save option: image indicates that the title is either large (20MB and over) or superseded. It will not be saved when using the Save All option in order to avoid problems for vessels with slow connection speeds. Instead, you will need to click the Save button individually for each large title that you would like to download.

  6. Once all the titles you want are downloaded, click on the “Export Downloads” button at the top right-hand side of the screen.

  7. Your downloaded books will be extracted from the browser’s local storage and saved to a ZIP file (usually in your Downloads folder).

NOTE: Do not rename or extract this this ZIP file.

  8. Please now LOG OUT of Witherby Connect on the PC on which you have created this export file. This can be done by clicking the Logout Button at the top right-hand side of the Witherby Connect window.

  9. Now copy the exported ZIP file to a location where it can be accessed by other PCs/User Accounts e.g. a shared network folder or on a USB stick.

  10. Log on to one of the PCs or user accounts that you wish to update, visit https://www.witherbyconnect.com and login in your normal manner. If you have not logged out of the other PC correctly i.e. closed the browser window rather than clicking the Logout Button, you may need to wait up to 5 minutes.

  11. Once you have logged in, click on Library Download

  12. On this panel, select the “Choose File” Button.

  13. After clicking Choose File navigate to the location to which you have saved the .zip file.

  14. When you have selected the .zip file you will receive a pop up asking for you to Confirm your Import. It will give a list of all the titles that will be imported into the library on this PC. If you are happy with this, click “Confirm”.

  15. This will now begin the Import Process of your Library.

  16. Once Complete you may now LOGOUT of Witherby Connect on this PC and repeat the process for all other PCs/User Accounts that require the library.

For multiple user accounts on the same PC, there is an easier option documented at https://witherbys.supportsystem.com/kb/faq.php?id=45.
